The site offers more than 3,000 courses and more than 130,000 video tutorials on topics that include software development, graphic design, business, education, animation, photography, and audio and music recording, according to library publicity. It typically costs $19.99 a month to subscribe to Lynda.com, but Fairfield Public Library cardholders will have free access. The library is always identifying new opportunities for learning for our community, Town Librarian Karen Ronald said in a statement about the new rsource. Lynda.com offers a wide variety of courses and allows patrons to learn at their own pace. Additionally, because it is a digital resource, patrons can access Lynda.com through the Librarys website any time of day or night from wherever they may be. Patrons can get to Lynda.com by logging in through the Fairfield Publuc Librarys website with their library card and pin number. Lynda.com, owned by LinkedIn, creates videos that are more in-depth and have higher production values than those found on YouTube and elsewhere, the library said. Other digital resources offered by the library include Zinio, for magazine lovers; Hoopla for streaming movies, music and television, OverDrive and One Click for checking out ebooks and e-audiobooks; Freegal for downloading music from Sonys music catalog (nearly 8 million songs!), and Scholastic BookFlix and Tumblebooks Library for children. Those resources are available in addition to numerous data bases and other resources, like the Consumer Reports website, that can be accessed for free through the librarys website 24/7. All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free. For more information, www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org or call 203-256-3160.
